Manuscript Evaluation
Many writers seek an opinion and advice on the quality of their manuscript. Having been absorbed in their manuscript for months, or even years, most writers lose their objectivity. The “court of first and last resort” is often friends and family, but they are too close. As well, they aren’t experts and their love for you will probably cause them to protect your feelings. You will have wasted precious time and find yourself no further ahead.
Instead, invest in your manuscript by hiring a professional to evaluate your text. Our agents, who are familiar with the wants, desires and demands of the global publishing industry, will read every word you’ve created and give you their honest, no-holds-barred opinion of the work. They’ll also provide you with detailed suggestions on how to improve the text to give you and your manuscript the best possible chance of success in the marketplace.
Our manuscript evaluation service includes:
- A written discussion of the strengths and weaknesses in dialogue, narrative flow, logic gaps, setting and characterization;
- Identification of the intended audience—children, young adult, baby boomer or the elderly;
- Critique of the quality of grammar, the interior monologue of the protagonist and other characters;
- Critique of the quality of use of metaphors;
- A professional evaluation of the manuscript’s marketability;
- Suggestions for development, corrections and improvements to the manuscript.
Although this service does not include editing, we will address spelling errors, improper use of adverbial intensifiers, repetition, contradictions, errors in time sequencing and historical discrepancies. The service does not guarantee representation of the manuscript after the evaluation is complete. Often, manuscripts require re-working before they have enough integrity to be submitted to mainstream publishers.
Should it be needed, we do offer a variety of editing services after the manuscript has gone through our evaluation process and the necessary changes have been made.
Our fee for a manuscript evaluation:
- $125.00 for the first ten pages;
- $2.00 per page thereafter;
- A Goods and Services Tax (5%) will be added to the total.
